603 Equality is a community driven, statewide organization that works to promote the wellbeing of LGBTQIA+ people in New Hampshire by advocating for inclusive legislation and policy change through direct advocacy, community empowerment, education, and coalition-building. Executive Director

603 Equality seeks an experienced, and relationship-driven leader to serve as the organization’s inaugural Executive Director. The Executive Director is the Chief Executive Officer of 603 Equality, tasked with actualizing the organization’s mission, furthering the organization's work, and addressing ever-increasing challenges to equality in our state. This includes engagement in legislative processes, policy tracking, community building, fundraising, and event organizing. The ED reports to the 603 Equality Board of directors. 

This role is perfect for someone who is passionate about creating a NH where all Granite Staters can thrive! The ideal candidate will have strong communication and organizational leadership skills, with the ability to develop and maintain positive relationships across differences. They should be self-motivated, flexible, detail oriented, collaboration-minded, and enthusiastic. Fundraising experience is a must, with nonprofit financial management experience preferred. Candidates must have a background in community-based work, preferably in the nonprofit sphere, as well as a core understanding of engagement with NH’s legislative systems. Previous work overseeing volunteers, event planning, and social media management are assets. A bachelor's degree or higher is strongly preferred, with lived experience and strong knowledge of the needs of the community served being highly valued. 

This is a hybrid position, with travel to Concord, and other locations, required for job functions. Candidates must have availability to attend and work at events occurring outside of regular business hours. If you don’t meet all preferred qualifications, we still encourage you to apply. 

Compensation Range: $68,000—$74,000, commensurate with experience, with opportunities to grow in the first year through fundraising deliverables. This is a salaried position.

Core Tasks: 

MISSION IMPLEMENTATION

  • Achieves tangible and measurable results in fulfilling 603 Equality’s mission as a community driven, statewide organization through day-to-day operations. 

  • Works with the board of directors to create a strategic vision and direction for 603 Equality to achieve LGBTQ+ equality in New Hampshire.

DONOR RELATIONS, FUNDRAISING, AND FINANCIAL PLANNING

  • Lead fundraising and development to secure the financial resources necessary to fulfill the organization’s mission.

  • Maintains ongoing relationships with major donors & cultivates new donors.

  • Lead development of annual operating budget, and collaborate with Board Treasurer, to assure fluid, accurate financial management of resources.

  • Achieves revenue goals and maintains controls on expenses.

BOARD RELATIONS & LEGAL COMPLIANCE

  • Maintains an engaged, active, productive Board of Directors in collaboration with the Board Chair

  • Keeps the Board informed of critical information and brings appropriate matters before the Board for input and resolution.

  • Works with the board to monitor and ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and reporting requirements.

COMMUNICATIONS WITH EXTERNAL AUDIENCES AND THE MEDIA

  • Serves as a responsible spokesperson for the organization, including the effective use of media to promote activities and successes.

  • Manages communications to/with community members & stakeholders, including via social media, newsletters, and action alerts. 

  • Maintains presence as a visible leader alongside the New Hampshire LGBTQ+ community, both in Regional work and in relationship with the National LGBTQ+ movement.

POLICY TRACKING AND ENGAGEMENT

  • Tracks and communicates developments in policies that impact the wellbeing of LGBTQ+ granite staters along designated priority areas, including state level legislation and school board challenges.

  • Effectively messages developments to involved stakeholders, the board, and the broader community, as is strategically warranted 

  • Establishes and maintains working relationships with elected officials, their staffs and other political figures and organizations.

  • Supports community in civic engagement, including through testimony, and other opportunities for public input

COMMUNITY RELATIONS

  • Maintains and expands network of area partners, as needed to ensure work towards the mission. Ensures that work happens in collaboration with, instead of in competition with, allied organizations. 

  • Develops results-oriented relationships with regional and national LGBTQ+ organizations

  • Plans events, and oversees volunteers/ community hubs engaged in these events,  that further community engagement in the mission.

MANAGEMENT

  • Supports coordination of LGBTQ+ advocacy work in the region, as needed

  • As organization grows, Executive Director will hire, develop, and manage staff

  • Other duties that may be required to enact the mission
